STEPH AZUNWEI
BOARD CHAIR
Steph Azunwie, a social justice advocate and seasoned business leader with over a decade of experience, serves as Accra Literacy’s board chair, driven by her passion for community empowerment. Currently serving as a Global Client Lead at Google, Steph brings expertise in strategic planning, stakeholder management, and business development. Her role involves partnering with top global customers and leading cross-functional teams to drive significant revenue growth.
In addition to her corporate experience, Steph's commitment to social impact was evident in her co-founding of Kada Essentials, a natural skincare brand with a social enterprise focus in Ghana. This background underscores her dedication to sustainable growth and community development. Steph's deep connection to NYC and Ghana, coupled with her strategic acumen and commitment to literacy and storytelling advancement, makes her a valuable asset to Accra Literacy. With her expertise in fostering partnerships and driving business impact, Steph is poised to contribute significantly to the organization's mission of promoting storytelling and literacy among underserved communities.

DR. SAMED MASHOOD
BOARD MEMBER
Samed Abdul Mashood brings a unique blend of medical expertise, passion for literacy advancement, community organizing, and advocacy to his role as an advisory board member for Accra Literacy. With a Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint-Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, Samed has extensive clinical experience and a deep understanding of the correlation between access to healthcare and social justice in both local and international contexts.
Beyond his clinical work, he is actively involved in our community development projects. He played a pivotal role in co-creating Accra Literacy's toolkit on menstrual health and period poverty, demonstrating his commitment to addressing critical health issues and promoting education within underserved communities. Additionally, he worked as a consultant for Ghana's Ministry of Health helping co-create a healthcare database consisting of various healthcare topics which further showcases his dedication to improving access to healthcare services and support for various communities. Fluent in multiple languages including Russian, Akan, and Dagbani, he possesses excellent communication skills and a deep cultural understanding that enriches his contributions to Accra Literacy's mission of advancing literacy and storytelling.
With his analytical acumen, compassionate approach to healthcare, and innovative mindset, Samed is instrumental in making significant contributions to Accra Literacy's efforts in empowering our communities through education and healthcare initiatives.

ADIZA MUMUNI
BOARD MEMBER
Adiza Mumuni is a dedicated educationist and early childhood teacher with over two decades of experience. She brings her passion for impacting knowledge to her role as a Volunteer Program Manager and board member at Accra Literacy. Adiza's profound connection to the community stems from her mission to provide underserved and underrepresented children with opportunities to learn in nurturing environments.
Committed to ensuring that deprived children and youth both in rural and urban communities thrive, her dream is to see them grow into impactful individuals in the future. In her voluntary capacity at Accra Literacy, Adiza actively contributes to creating a positive and conducive learning space for the community's children and young people.

NANCY TSIBU
BOARD MEMBER
Nancy Tsibu, a dedicated professional with over a decade of experience in sales, leadership and community service, is deeply committed to giving back to her community. Her journey in boutique facilitation and brand ambassadorship has not only honed her sales skills but also instilled in her a profound sense of responsibility towards social justice and advocacy. As a board member of Accra Literacy, Nancy is driven by a genuine passion for education and empowerment. Having witnessed firsthand the transformative power of literacy, she believes in the fundamental importance of access to education for underserved and underrepresented communities like the ones Accra Literacy serves. She understands that literacy is not only about reading and writing but also about unlocking doors of opportunity, fostering self-confidence, and empowering individuals to reach their full potential.
Nancy's connection to the community we are organizing runs deep. Through her years of experience working closely with diverse clientele, she has cultivated strong relationships with individuals from all walks of life. Her commitment to serving others extends beyond the bounds of sales, as she actively seeks out opportunities to make a positive impact in her community. Whether it's volunteering at local organizations or supporting fundraising efforts, Nancy is dedicated to leveraging her skills and expertise to support the organization's mission of promoting literacy and storytelling within our community. OPHELIA B. GYARE-L.
VOLUNTEER FOUNDING DIRECTOR
Ophelia Gyare is the visionary Founder and current Volunteer Director of Accra Literacy. As a graduate with an MPA from the Marxe School of Public Affairs at Baruch College and an MFA in Creative Writing from the Writer’s Foundry in St. Joseph's University, she brings a unique blend of knowledge in nonprofit management, storytelling proficiency and strategic policy expertise to her leadership role.
Ophelia’s connection to community organizing has always remained serving as a champion of effective change in historically underrepresented and under-resourced groups. Her core mission is to continuously enhance resource accessibility by fostering equitable spaces and experiences for communities and individuals. In addition to founding Accra Literacy, she has a long standing history of working as a communications professional particularly specializing in program design for social equity, strategic storytelling, brand strategy, and entrepreneurship.
She’s equipped with skills in relationship-building, budget management, fundraising strategies, and conducting in-depth research to identify specific community needs. Ophelia's commitment to grassroots advocacy, collaboration, and storytelling aligns seamlessly with the values of Accra Literacy, creating a powerful synergy between her professional expertise and the organization's mission. As one of the driving forces behind Accra Literacy, she stands at the forefront of a movement that seeks to facilitate community organizing, bridge gaps, empower communities, and create lasting change through the transformative power of literacy and storytelling.
