ALC’s Mission
Accra Literacy Campaign’s (ALC) primary mission is to advance literacy among underserved children and young people in Ghana and the US between the ages of 4 and 18. We do this on two levels: the primary and secondary. On the primary level, we provide our beneficiaries with learning materials, and menstrual products. And on the secondary level we provide scholarship awards and other supplemental needs on a need-and-availability-basis.
Our secondary mission is to bridge the gap between young Ghanaian students in Ghana and African American students in the US through a pen-pal initiative. This initiative is intended to facilitate knowledge-sharing between both groups.
ALC’s Vision
We envision a future where underserved children and young people can secure access to literacy without barriers that can easily be eliminated.
Looking into the Future
-ALC’s short-term goals include the implementation of a pen-pal program that seeks to bridge the gap between young people in Ghana and the United States. This initiative is intended to facilitate knowledge-sharing between both groups.
-Our long-term goals include building a community library in Ghana, stocked with books and technological equipment that are accessible for children and young people of low-income backgrounds as part of our mission to advance literacy.
-Other long-term goals will be developed as the needs arise and resources become more readily available.
